The Instructional Designer is responsible for developing and designing scalable, high-quality content, instructional products, and tools including print, multimedia and digital content for the Fly Five Social and Emotional Learning curriculum. The Instructional Designer must be versed in developing learning tools specifically for all students, teachers, parents, and educational stakeholders. We are looking for a candidate that is highly motivated, creative, and can take initiative. The candidate must have strong content development skills, a deep knowledge of educational principles, and are capable of meeting multiple, often competing deadlines. The Instructional Designer must be eager to learn, flexible, and able to work cooperatively to meet shared objectives.

This position is also responsible for collaborating with members of the Fly Five matrixed team of developers, designers, editors, reviewers, researchers, and others to develop, write, and design learning content and products.

This position is eligible for telecommuting and requires travel, sometimes extensively.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Fly Five SEL Curriculum Design and Materials Development

  • Develops the content and designs lessons in alignment with the overall goals and intentions of the C.A.R.E.S. standards.
  • Designs active and experiential Fly Five curriculum lessons and other content that reflect the best teaching and learning practices, are goal-driven, and are responsive to the needs of the K–8 students.
  • Designs scalable instruction that reflects an understanding of diversity and inclusion.
  • Designs scalable learning and teaching resources for educators and stakeholders that are research and evidence-based.
  • Works collaboratively across tiers with program developers to assure program coherence and participates in launches of the Fly Five curriculum and products.

Quality Assurance Process

  • Utilizes evaluation and observation tools for each phase of lesson development.
  • Utilizes the process set to review and include feedback from directors, program developers, and peer review teams to be used as a part of the quality assurance and course maintenance processes.
  • Works on peer review teams for any CRS work.
  • Works collaboratively on peer review teams to review lessons, books, or other materials pertaining to the Fly Five curriculum and products
  • Participates in the annual needs assessment and planning process for program, workshop, and course management and takes responsibility for contributing to product improvement as assigned.
  • Participates in annual audit of CRS programming to assure program coherence, consistency, and current articulation of each program.

Professional Development for the Fly Five Learning Community

  • Is responsible for designing and delivering training that supports the Fly Five curriculum.
  • Collaborates to ensure that all Fly Five professional development is high-quality and designed to scale.
  • Develops content and designs PD that maintains the integrity of the Fly Five curriculum
  • Supports a culture of positive and professional collegiality.
  • Ensures that all tools and materials are designed in a way that can successfully be used by the participants.

Literacy Integration

  • Develops literary resources, products, materials, and programming that emphasizes components of effective reading instruction, including but not limited to, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Creates developmentally appropriate curriculum and content that requires students to intercept complex ideas, critically analyze arguments, synthesize information from multiple sources, and use reading to build their knowledge.
  • Develops literary resources that reflect representation, equity, and inclusion.
  • Is responsible for implementing authentic meaning-making literacy experiences and the use of high-quality literature throughout curriculum content.
  • Develops content to expand the literary components of Fly Five and Avenue A, including but not limited to read-aloud stories, chapter books, comic books, books in a series, short stories, and digital literary gaming opportunities for students.
  • Develops marketing content for the literary products encompassed in the Avenue A brand
  • Develops innovative engagement opportunities for possible Avenue A consumers

Course and Workshop Delivery; Working with Clients; Representing CRS

  • Experienced and skilled presenter, facilitator and communicator
  • Able to serve in a variety of facilitator roles at CRS sponsored events.
  • Meet with educational stakeholders to coach or consult on instructional or school needs

Qualifications

  • Requires a 4-year degree in the field of education, instructional design, or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution, Masters preferred. 3 + years of teaching experience; RC Teacher Certification is preferred
  • Experience using a standards-based approach to program and project development.
  • Experience with leading collaborative team projects involving internal and external constituents
  • Excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, conveying complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability and interest in working with a high degree of autonomy with a high degree of professionalism
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google productivity software

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to use a computer for up to 8 hours/day with breaks and lunch.
  • Ability to talk on the phone for up to 4 hours/day.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. on occasion.
  • Ability to travel by airplane or automobile, at times extensively.
